I didn’t realize it until very recently, but I’ve been a closeted lover of sci-fi all my life. My brother convinced me to start watching Doctor Who, and now I’m on to Star Trek: The Next Generation. What’s next? Battlestar Galactica? Dune? Frankenstein? Only time travelling will tell.
Of course the reason I didn’t know I liked science fiction is because I only watched animated shows until the age of 27. And the animated Star Trek show just didn’t do the trick.

Dakota: Try Dune. The Hollywood movie was poorly acted and had questionable special effects but was reasonably loyal to an abbridged version of the book. The British made mini-series was very loyal to the book, had reasonably good special effects and was not completely irritating in its acting. The original Dune books written by Herbert were absolutely superb. The entire series (Dune, Dune Messiah, and the final book God Emperor of Dune) made a very good story with excellent continuity and logical story lines. The story goes beyond simple “sci-fi”.
Dune has been on my list of things to read for years. I really need to get around to that. Maybe listening to an audiobook version while drawing is my best option…
You should watch the movie version of Stargate because James Spader.
We have a board game of Dune at school! No idea how to play, but we’ll play someday!
I think Lutes and the gang play it the Dune board game at game night. Gotta go one of these days.
The Dune Trilogy is amazing. My recommendations for superb sci-fi fiction are Ursula K. LeGuin (especially “Left Hand of Darkness” & “The Dispossessed”), Robert Heinlein (“The Cat Who Walked Through Walls” is my favorite), everything by Ray Bradbury, and John Varley (The Gaean trilogy is mind blowing). Enjoy the new worlds which will haunt your imagination for years to come!
